How to do this ?
Published on November 17, 2006 By Fix In WindowBlinds
Hello,

In some visual styles I've imported into SkinStudio, the common task panel (that is in Explorer, Configuration panel, etc.) is horizontal, and is displayed just behind the address bar, whereas in my skin it's vertical, and it's on the left side of the window.

How can I move it to go there ?

Thanx in advance for your help.

Regards,

Have you actually applied the theme? Its not going to show in the SKS preview window if its an imported shellstyle but it should apply horizontally.
Nor can you modify it in Skinstudio, you will have to edit the .uifile in the theme folder or edit it in Resbuilder or Resedit before you import the shellstyle.dll, Visual Style Shellstyles are not editable in SKS basically.

Anybody know of a good tutorial on how to go about moving the "Common Tasks" panel from the left side to horizontal, either below the address/menu bar, or just above the status bar? vStyler, your reply, while telling us how we cant do it, does nothing to the constructive side of things for those who are just beginning to try and either edit or create skins. I have searched these forums several times and have found nothing in the way of a tutorial, or information on how one would accomplish this. I know there are designers out there who have figured it out, but it doesn't appear they are wanting to share their knowledge with the community.

I'm just saying it would be nice if someone could write an easy to follow, yet informative tutorial on how to go about doing what you above said had to be done in order to accomplish this.

Modifying a shellstyle can be an extremely complicated process especially when changing image placement. There arent any tutorials that I am aware of and I don't have time to write one. I can tell you my Tritan skin has a horiz. shellstyle. Modify it to suit if you like. Do like I did, dig in.. change stuff, trial and error, learn. Its the best advice I can give.

This may be of some assistance to you. Be warned tho, shellstyles are data intensive.

http://de.geocities.com/webfactorx/shellstyle/index.html < -- link may or may not work...if it doesn't then Google "CoolXP shellstyle" and click 1st link in list.

My question is how is it possibble to implement those changers from normal left hand vertical panel to Horizontal panel just by applying thru WindowBlinds skins?

basj, you have to import an already coded horizontal Shellstyle.dll into SKS..it will generate a .uifile in your windowblinds folder which you can then modify if needed. SKS itself cannot modify your shellstyle this way from within its gui. Theres tons of Horiz. shellstyle.dll's floating around, each modified from the last user that modded one. Just import one Via Windowblinds > Import Shellstyle in SKS.
